Our Story Of Moving To Asheville (AVL)

My husband Tom and I visited Asheville on a whim. Originally from Connecticut, our Florida home began to suffocate us. Where were the seasons? Where were the hills? Where was the good wine? “Muscadine” is a swear word in our household. We needed a change. Fall runs in our blood; OK, well, maybe fall beer does too.

During one fateful weekend visit, we instantly knew the boozy spirits designed this gorgeous city just for us. Was it the champagne bookstore? The Hunger Games waterfalls? A crocheted pig on a lamppost?

Within two months, we moved into our AVL home. Our days are filled with hiking, pesky black bears, purple sunsets, and delicious local food. We have never looked back. All of these guides are written from our hearts (and stomachs!).

Lovely Community Of Caring Folks

I LOVE, LOVE Uncorked Asheville as a tourist, and now as a local. We vacationed in this area for 15 years before relocating here last year. The Uncorked Asheville blog and newsletters were and are my go to for ideas, resources, and great information. I also use the Facebook group regularly now that I live here. It has helped me find vets, doctors, hair salons and all the things. It is a lovely community of caring folks who love this area as much as we do. Interesting Restaurants & New Trends

We found Uncorked Asheville on Facebook before we moved to town three years ago, and used the Facebook page and website to help us find interesting restaurants to go to. I love the way Christine writes reviews, it’s like you’re listening to one of your friends. She doesn’t rave about everything just to make an owner or small business happy, she has no problem telling you that something was just “fine”, and I think that’s great! We continue to reference her website and posts for highlights on events or new openings in town. Christine and Tom always seem to on top of new trends before we’ve even heard of something going on or a new place opening. We enjoy the newsletter too, I was just taking notes on the Catawba Falls updates and hints that Christine wrote about. We are lucky to have Christine and Tom writing about our favorite city!
